Cloud security basics for growing teams
Start with identity
Most cloud incidents begin with a compromised account. Enforce multi-factor authentication everywhere, remove shared accounts, and give people only the access their role needs.
Know what you have
You cannot protect assets you cannot see. Keep an inventory of accounts, storage, databases and public endpoints, and review it regularly.
Encrypt and back up
- Encrypt data at rest and in transit
- Keep backups separate from production credentials
- Test restores, not just backups
Log everything that matters
Turn on audit logging for logins, configuration changes and data access, and send the logs somewhere an attacker cannot easily erase.
Plan for the bad day
Write down who decides, who acts and who communicates when something goes wrong. A short, practised plan beats a long, unread one.
